They have arrived!

Area-51 m5500 and Area-51 m5700

After much waiting, Alienware has finally released the long waited reinforcements to their notebook lineup. It was really hectic today at work while we tried to luanch these notebooks. It’s been over a month of work of designers, product managers and a lot of other people. Hurricane Wilma didn’t make it any better either - we lost two days last week thanks to the hurricane. But we perseviered, and were actually pretty ready for the launch today.

There are a couple of things I want to point though, if you click on the first link above, you’ll go to the product overview page. I have to say, Liz and Randy did a good job on those shots you’ll find on the gallery on the right. I personally had some difficulties with my part of the page - the cool area just below the heading graphic. That little area gave me headaches last friday as I was trying to get it just right - for some reason it was flickering all over the place on firefox, and all the regular CSS tricks I knew werent given me the correct layout I needed. I looked it over the weekend and I found that the flickering effect is well decumented apperantly, and don’t expect it to be fixed until Firefox 1.5!!! What’s up with that?! Other then that, I’m happy on how the page turned out, I personally really wanted some interaction in that page considering what a big launch this was going to be.

I think the team did a good job of all the graphics in the detailed product pages. There lots of good graphics for both the Area-51 m5500 and the Area-51 m5700. The notebooks themselves look impressive in both the style and their technicall specs. Personally if I had the money I would go for the Area-51 m5500, 17” screens are just too big for portability in my mind, but the m5700 is quite portable. The only thing I wish the m5500 had is the GeForce Go 6800.
